Bio

I'm a picture book writer/poet and ravenous reader of just about anything. I graduated from UC Davis, then headed for Arizona to do graduate work in archeology at ASU. I eventually ended up spending forty years teaching elementary students in Phoenix, Arizona.
I'm an active member of SCBWI and 12 x 12 as well as mother to two daughters and grandmother to seven grandchildren. Currently my days are spent writing, playing with grandchildren, birdwatching, and interacting with a large sulcata tortoise and an often bad-tempered cat.
12 Days of Christmas for Writers
Children's author Julie Hedlund, challenged participants of her 12 Days of Christmas for Writers series to post SUCCESSES (rather than resolutions) on our blogs or websites this year. She believes the way New Year's resolutions are traditionally made come from a place of negativity - what DIDN'T get done or achieved in the previous year. Instead, she suggests we set goals for the New Year that BUILD on our achievements from the previous one. I decided to participate in this Anti-Resolution Revolution! Here is my list for 2022.

#1
Finally put together my very own author website!

#2
Entered 5 different writing contests this year and got at least an honorable mention on each (see Contest section).

#3
Thought up 30+ picture book ideas for Tara Lazar's Storystorm Challenge (2nd year in a row).

#4
Started a MG Fantasy Novel this year and was longlisted in the Searchlight Writing for Children Awards Novel Opening Contest.

#5
Completed 12 picture book drafts for Julie Hedlund's 12x12 Challenge, and just submitted my application for the Winner's Wall.
